NIA Conducts Searches Across Five States in Cyber-Terrorism Case Linked to Alleged DDoS Attacks on Government Websites

NIA Conducts Searches Across Five States in Cyber-Terrorism Case Linked to Alleged DDoS Attacks on Government Websites

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted searches at five locations across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Bihar and Delhi as part of its ongoing investigation into a cyber-terrorism case involving alleged Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks on websites of Government of India entities.

According to reports, the investigation is linked to alleged attempts to target 54 government websites, including critical computer resources and Critical Information Infrastructure (CII), during the period of Operation Sindoor.

Searches Conducted Across Five Locations

The NIA conducted searches in Junnar in Maharashtra's Pune district, Nadiad in Gujarat's Kheda district, Ramagundam in Telangana, Gopalganj in Bihar, and Delhi.

The searches are part of the agency's ongoing investigation into case RC-01/2025/NIA/AMD, commonly referred to in reports as the Gujarat cyber-terrorism case. The case was initially registered by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad before being taken over by the NIA.

Alleged DDoS Attacks Targeted Government Websites

The case centres on alleged sophisticated DDoS attacks against government websites. A DDoS attack typically involves overwhelming a website or digital system with a large volume of traffic, potentially disrupting access to online services.

According to the NIA's earlier investigation and the latest reports, the alleged attacks targeted critical government computer resources and infrastructure. The agency has treated the matter as a cyber-terrorism investigation because of the alleged threat posed to national security and critical digital systems.

Digital Devices and Documents Seized

During the latest searches, investigators reportedly seized digital devices and documents alleged to be connected with hacking-related activities. Reports said that three laptops, five mobile phones and other digital storage devices, including pen drives, were taken into custody for further examination.

The individuals connected with the locations searched were also questioned regarding their alleged links to those already arrested in the case.

Two Accused Already Arrested

Two accused have already been arrested in connection with the investigation. Technical analysis carried out during the probe reportedly helped investigators identify additional suspects who allegedly provided support or assistance connected to the preparation for the alleged cyberattacks.

The NIA's investigation remains ongoing, and the seized electronic devices are expected to undergo further forensic examination as investigators attempt to establish the wider scope of the alleged network and identify any additional individuals who may have been involved.

Growing Focus on India's Cyber Security

The case highlights the increasing importance of cybersecurity and the protection of critical digital infrastructure. As government services, financial systems, communication networks and public infrastructure become increasingly dependent on digital platforms, cyberattacks have emerged as a significant national security concern.

The latest searches indicate that the investigation is continuing beyond the individuals already arrested, with the NIA examining alleged support networks and digital evidence connected to the case.

Further developments are expected as the agency continues its investigation.
